5779 Elul Meditation Intensive Program

September 1 – September 29, 2019

Elul 5779 Meditation Intensive:
(Re)Turning to a True Refuge

I incline myself toward the Beloved.
With You as my light and salvation, whom shall I fear?
With You as the stronghold of my life, who can possibly scare me?
For You envelop me in Your cooling shade on a bad day;
You hide me away in the loving folds of Your tent.
I am uplifted through Your rock-solid support.

—Selections from Psalm 27, translated poetically by Rabbi Sam Feinsmith

Throughout the year, we may mindlessly reach for a refuge from the storms of life without realizing that we’re taking shelter under a deck of cards and inadvertently making a mess of our lives.  Psalm 27—the Psalm for Elul and the days of awe—invites us to bring some discernment to the work of finding a reliable refuge within, one that isn’t dependent on external causes and conditions.  Join the Institute for Jewish Spirituality on a month-long journey through Elul as we explore how we might discover and strengthen that refuge through the practice of Jewish mindfulness meditation.

Taught by Rabbi Sam Feinsmith, with guest appearances by Rabbis Nancy Flam, Marc Margolius, Lisa Goldstein and Jonathan Slater.
