“The questioning allows us to dig deep into the Torah portion and make the aliyot personal. Excellent strategy to include everyone.”

Wise Aging: Frequently Asked Questions

Wise Aging Program: Frequently Asked Questions

When is the next Wise Aging facilitator training?
The only other facilitator training on the calendar for the remainder of 2017 is in partnership with the Baltimore, MD community (October 22-23). While priority will be given to individuals from the supporting institutions, there may be a few slots for others. We will be happy to add your name to the growing list of those interested in training; we expect to roll out new training models and locations in 2018. To be added to our list for updates about the new Wise Aging model, please email Mara Bernstein (marab@jewishspirituality.org).

Where is a Wise Aging group that I can join as a participant?
Some Wise aging groups may only be open to members of the sponsoring congregation, while others welcome non-members. We do not have current information for all groups, so it is best to check with local synagogues to confirm status of their Wise Aging group. If you are based in New York City,  the JCC of Manhattan offers Wise Aging sessions throughout the year.

We have several Institute for Jewish Spirituality-trained facilitators in our congregation and there is interest in forming more groups. Until there are new training options, how can we grow Wise Aging in our community?
Ideally, all Wise Aging facilitators are trained by the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. While we are transitioning to new training models, I am able to offer you the following:
If there are individuals who have participated in a Wise Aging group led by an Institute-trained facilitator who would now like to become facilitators themselves, we are willing to make the Facilitator Guide available to them. Ideally they would initially co-lead a group with an Institute-trained facilitator. The cost of each Facilitator Guide is $275. This will also give each facilitator access to additional resources on the Wise Aging wiki, and the option of participating in our webinars.

How can I order the Wise Aging book ?
Wise Aging can be ordered from the Institute for Jewish Spirituality website.

I have questions about the Wise Aging training in Baltimore  (October 22-23, 2017)
11 congregations and a social service agency are partnering with Institute for Jewish Spirituality to bring a community-wide training to Baltimore October 23-24, 2017. Clergy at each institution should submit names and contact info for their designated trainees to the Institute by August 1 by emailing barbaras@jewishspirituality.org.
